Space Odyssey (Williams 1976)
When the US/Soviet Sojuz-operation was announced in 1975, it took the attention
of Williams designer genius Steve Kordek. This was the first time the two nations
had combined their resources in space technology.
Steve put a good old Swinging Target in the middle of the playfield, to
represent two moving spaceships docking. This was difficult for even the
best players, especially since holding the ball at flipper was impossible
because the slingshots were replaced with "kicking pockets" that shot the
ball up towards swinging target.
The two spaceships met in July 1976. Steve Kordek's creation had been out
for a few weeks then. Kordek and Williams held their schedule as well as NASA!
These machines were produced quite a lot, 4300 pcs!
